Vintage Taos south western painting by Patricia Dobson. Original oil on masonite painting of a group of six Hopi indian maidens with squash blossom hairstyles on top of a adobe building. They are also dressed in costume blankets which indicate their eligibility for marriage. This art painted with muted tones typical of the south western Taos colors is most likely inspired by the famous photograph take by Edward Curtis in 1906 titled "An Afternoon Chat". The perspective of the painting is also unique in all of the subjects are turned away from the viewer.

Patricia Dobson (b.1947) is a painter of highly realistic Indian pottery still life who works both from photos and from the actual arranged objects. Her oil paintings are characterized by unique shadow effects and surface effects that suggest old images.

Her interest in history began when she spent summers in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains where she was much taken with the sensuality of the smells, colors, and textures. She studied art at Foothills College in California, then in the mid 1980s moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where she focused on native American themes, especially southwestern pottery.

CONDITION

In generally good condition. There is some uneven varnish discoloration throughout the sky. There is no evidence of restoration under blacklight. (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
