Japanese Boxwood Netsuke Elephant Carved Figurine 2" Statue
Antique Japanese carved boxwood or cherry katabori netsuke. Exquisitely carved miniature wooden elephant facing the reverse way in a seated position which was suspended on a Samurai belt. This late Edo or early Meiji period wooden netsuke is unusual in its subject matter as the elephant is in a seated position with his head turned around 180 degrees. This was recently acquired from a renowned collection of small Asian bronze, wood and amber figurines in the Los Angeles area.
A perfect addition to your Japanese home decor or a fabulous gift idea for any Asian wooden sculpture collection.
