Antique 1800s Miniature Italian Wax Art Cameos
Antique pair of late 18th century Italian red wax cameos. Sold as souvenirs to rich grand tourists in the late 18th and early 19th century as a miniature reminder of the art they observed in Europe. One depicts the side profile of a lady with her hair up in braids and the other depicts a side on profile of a man projecting from the cameo at an angle. Both look to have ancient Roman origins in the style and are framed in a thin wound wooden band. These were originally purchased in the 1960's at auction in the Midlands, UK.
This would make a great addition to any cameo or miniature Italian art collection. This would make a great early holiday gift.
