Antique Framed Seascape Oil on Canvas Painting
Antique 19th century oil on canvas landscape painting. Original framed oil on canvas painting depicting a dawn landscape of a rock formation Believed to be Plymouth as attested by the title on the reverse this competent artist is believed to be an artist called Karatz. Great use of light on the relatively dark painting suggests it was painted in plein air as the shadow being cast by the rising sun on the rock and across the beach spans the horizon. This late 19th century oil painting is most likely American in origin but without a location to base it on it may be any number of locations from Massachusetts to Arkansas.
Unsigned but the back of the frame has: Karatz Plymouth
The canvas frame has antique hardware marked: Patent Feb 1882 1885
This would make a great addition to your eclectic home decor, oil on canvas or fine art collection.
MEASUREMENTS
Frame measures 19" tall by 23" wide by 2.75" deep (canvas frame measures 17" by 13") and weighs 7lb 14oz.
CONDITION
This painting is in good condition and ready to display. There is some craquelure throughout and a small indentation on the canvas in the top right corner. The gesso has chipped off the corners of the frame (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
