Rare Antique Political Temperance 1775 Patriotic Brass US Coin
Extremely rare antique Temperance celebration 1775 coin. The obverse side depicts an American Eagle holding a shield with the words "Bunker Hill" inscribed. The reverse depicts a Temperance pledge surrounded by laurel leaves. I believe that this coin was struck by a Temperance or Prohibition organization to celebrate the battle of Bunker Hill in an effort to associate temperance with nationalism. Made from brass this piece is in uncleaned condition and very rare, one of the few references I can find are from a numismatists collection book dating from 1863 which stated it as rare then.
Marked on front: The Patriots of 1775, All Hail Our Countries Freedom, Bunker Hill
Marked on back: Temperance Celebration. We agree to abstain from the use of all intoxicating liquors as a beverage.
A great addition to your antique political or temperance collection or early holiday gift for the numismatist.

Coin measures 1" diameter and weighs less than 1oz.
