Bronze Indian Chief Sculpture ~ Hank Richter (1928- )
A patinated bronze bust of a Native American man, raised on a wooden base, signed and inscribed in the bronze. the bust depicts the man looking upwards as if at the sun since his eyes are squinting to reveal the lines around his eyes and his forehead. His loose flowing hair is topped with a lightly wrapped sweat bandana in a typical native American style. His age is apparent from the loose skin on his neck which look like deep furrows and his full face would intimate that he is well nourished and perhaps even a higher ranking member of his tribe. He is also well adorned with jewelry both on his right ear and on his neck.
I believe this to be number 6 of 17 castings made by Hank Richter of the same image. Hank Richter is considered an established and successful artist in many mediums being included in numerous corporate, city, museum and individual art collections, Hank’s artwork has been shown at major invitational shows such as: Master’s of the West Show at the Autry Museum of Western Heritage; The Mountain Oyster Western Contemporary Art Show; the Empire 100 Western Art Show and Sale; and the Festival of Western Art Show.
